DESCRIPTION:Henda Salmeron\nTotal Raised: $3\,600\nAs of Dec 2\, 2015\nDonate Today\nThe Bridge Breast Network (BBN) saves lives by providing access to diagnostic and treatment services for breast cancer to low income\, uninsured and underinsured individuals in North Texas. We are able to do this because of the generosity of our medical network and supporters that believe in our mission. For every $1 donated\, we are able to provide 10x that amount in diagnostic and treatment services. This allows the BBN to provide a woman diagnosed with early stage breast cancer complete treatment and 1-year follow-up for $20\,000. We are asking for your assistance in helping us reach our goal of raising $20\,000 as part of our Surviving with a Purpose campaign.\n\nHenda Salmeron (a breast cancer survivor and advocate who was instrumental in having TX HB2102 “Henda’s Law” passed in the Texas Legislature) is Surviving with a Purpose and participating in a 140 mile run over 6 days in Cambodia to promote breast cancer awareness and the importance of early detection. Funds raised through donations supporting Henda’s participation in this run will be donated in their entirety to the Bridge Breast Network to provide early detection and treatment services for women without insurance. Your donation goes directly to the Bridge Breast Network.. \nAbout the Race\nThe Ancient Khmer Trail – 140 miles over 6 days – November 29th thru December 4th. \nMy next stage race will start at a Buddhist temple in the Cambodia jungle where monks will wish me the best of luck for the race. We will camp in ancient temples which served as the filming location for the movie “Indiana Jones” and I will refresh my senses with jungle trails and high waterfalls running a marathon a day for six days. We will run through temple ruins built more than 1000 years ago and finish the race in front of the world heritage site of Angkor Wat! The race organizers will supply water at every check point and boiling water at the campsites at night. The race is fully self-supported in that each runner is responsible for all their own food\, gear\, and supplies not to exceed 20 lbs in total weight. Each runner will be tested to overcome heat\, humidity\, blisters and muscle pain and to dig deep to find the mental strength to continue each day. Day 3 is the longest day and spans 39 miles. \nhttp://www.global-limits.com/the-ancient-khmer-path.html \nAbout Henda Salmeron\nHenda was diagnosed with a later stage breast cancer in 2009. A 4cm tumor was missed by routine mammograms because of dense breast tissue. Henda lobbied to have the standard of care changed in Texas and Gov Perry signed “Henda’s Law” on June 17\, 2011. The bill requires all mammography centers to notify women with dense breast tissue about the limitations of mammography and the benefits of supplemental screening. \nHere is an article about the bill and my story – http://www.dmagazine.com/publications/d-magazine/2011/november/how-hendas-law-was-born \nAbout Endurance Racing\nHenda made a commitment to her health and fitness after her cancer diagnosis and treatments. Her first race was the Himalayan 100\, a 5 day stage race at 13\,000 feet in India where she saw the sunrise over Mt Everest. Since then she has competed in many ultra-endurance races around the world including The Transrockies 120 in Colorado\, The Kalahari Augrabies 150 miles in South-Africa in the Kalahari Desert\, Grand to Grand in Utah/Arizona – a 170 mile fully self-supported race that took runners from the North Rim of the Grand Canyon to the summit of the Pink Cliffs in Utah climbing the Grand Staircase. She also competed in The Coastal Challenge jungle race in Costa Rica and have run several half and full marathons including The NYC Marathon\, The Chicago Marathon\, Napa Valley Marathon and Dallas White Rock. \nShe recently started cycling and just competed in The Hotter Than Hell 100 in Wichita Falls. Henda celebrated her 5 year breast cancer survival in December 2014.
